India vs Bharat
William Shakespeare said that "what is kept in the name". But this thing about him does not fit about India because here the whole politics and country run only by name. The names of many cities and territories in India have been changed and this sequence will continue even further.
In India, a person's caste, his religion, his state and his food can be estimated based on the name.
Furthering the culture of changing this name, a person named 'Namah', a resident of Delhi, had filed a petition in the Supreme Court that the name 'India and India' written in the Constitution should be changed to India or Hindustan alone.
The petitioner had argued in the court that the British had given the name 'India' to our country, so now the symbol name of this slavery should be changed and instead of two names only one name should be changed.
The petitioner made these arguments in the court;
1. Gandhiji gave the slogan of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ during the fight against the British and not ‘India’ Mata Ki Jai.
2. The word 'Bharat' also comes in the national anthem of our country and not 'India'
3. The word 'Bharat' is also used in the Indian Penal Code.
4. Before the British rule, the Mughals also used to call our country as 'Hindustan'.
Thus, the petitioner in the court said that two names of India should be removed and only one name should be kept, so the Supreme Court should take steps towards making changes in article 1 of the Constitution of India.
What does article 1 of the Indian Constitution say?
Name and region of India;
1. India, which is India, will be a union of states.
2. States and territories will be specified in the first schedule.
3. Areas of India will be included.
It is not that this debate between India and India has just arisen. Actually this issue is before the Constitution of India came into force.
Before the constitution of India came into force, when the good and evil of the constitution was being debated in the Constituent Assembly, some people had opposed its two names.
The debate began with members of the Constituent Assembly H.V. Kamath started He opposed the draft prepared by Baba Saheb and said that there should be only one primary name of the country, either it should be called India or Hind. Apart from this, the name India should be pronounced only for English language.
Apart from this, the name ‘Bharat’ was given to M.A. Iyengar, K.V. People like Rao, Kamalapati Tripathi and Hargovind Pant also supported.
But when it was voted on in the Constituent Assembly, this amendment proposal to name only 'India' fell and the country was renamed India that is Baharat.
But the debate on this issue always continued and in 2014, when Yogi Adityanath was a Member of Parliament, he introduced a private member bill on this issue in Parliament. In which it was said to use the word Hindustan instead of the word India and it was proposed to keep the primary name of the country as 'Bharat'.
Supreme Court decision
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court has dismissed the petition to change this name and said that when the name of the country is already 'India', then what is the meaning of such a petition? However, the court has also asked the concerned ministry to look into it.
