Birsa Munda jayanti
June 9 is celebrated as Birsa Munda Jayanti. Birsa Munda was a great revolutionary. He was born on 15 November 1875 in the family of Saguna Manga and Karmi Hatu of Munda tribe residing in Chota Nagpur, in the village of Ulihatu in Khunti district of Ranchi, capital of present-day Jharkhand. After passing his preliminary examination in Ulihatu, he took admission in the Chaibas English Medium.
But from 1866 to 1890 there was a turning point in his life. When the Sardar movement started, his father stopped his school because his father was opposing Christian schools. Birsa Munda always focused on the atrocities committed by the British rulers in his society. Birsa did not approve of the British intervention in the lifestyle of the tribals. Birsa Munda was ignited by anger at the British for seeing the tribals Christianized, snatching their lives and the misdeeds of the women being taken away by touts. Now Birsa Munda joined the Sardar movement with his traditional customs and started fighting with the British.
Birsa explained the principles of Hinduism to the tribals, advised them to stop cow slaughter, and opposed the British, gave a slogan "End the rule of the queen and establish our empire".
On 1 October 1994, as a young leader, he united all the tribals and started the agitation for rent amnesty against the British, but in 1895 Birsa was arrested and sentenced to 2 years in Hazaribagh Central Jail. But he attained the status of a great man by serving the tribals wholeheartedly in the famine and pestilence in the Chota Nagpur plateau, and people started worshiping him as "Dharti Baba".
From 1897 to 1900, Munda and his companions had plagued the British. In 1897, they attacked Khunti police station, in 1898, there was a raid on the banks of the river Tanga, another collision occurred in January 1900 in which many children and women were killed and many companions were also arrested.
